Job Help
As a potential employee thinking about working in the Islands, or an employer looking to hire someone unfamiliar with their Island, we have provided a few helpful ideas to think about.
Employers
When hiring from the United States or Europe, be sure to remember that although you are accustomed to Island life, new prospective employees from large areas generally are not. We recommend that when in contact with potential employees, you communicate to them the aspects, good and bad, of living on your Island. Explain to them honestly what daily life is like on the job and on the Island. It’s much better to well inform prospective employees, even if that means it doesn’t seem to be a match. It will be much better for both parties to do so before investing in training costs and before they have the expense of moving. This way, when it works, it works!
Job Seekers
Be sure and research the destination you are considering for your new career. The Islands are among the most beautiful places on earth, but it may also present new challenges. Here are a few important topics to research when considering your Island Paradise.
Note: Information on these topics is available to you here by clicking on “Learn about an Island” under the main menu.
Schools: If you have children, consider that on most islands it will be more desirable to enroll your children in private schools. This is not true of all of the islands, but we recommend you inquire about the Islands schools with either your potential employer or by getting in touch with the Island’s department of Education.
Transportation: Many Islands have great public transportation so a car is not required…while others have very limited public transportation. Many Islands drive on the left, which may take a bit of getting used to.
Costs of living: The cost of living varies from Island to Island. Living on one of the most expensive Islands compares to living in NY or LA, while other Islands offer tremendous exchange rates that make living there a true “bargain”!
Shipping: Shipping methods should be carefully considered in order to make best use of your dollar. Generally speaking, we recommend not shipping anything when you first move to the islands. Most rental properties come completely furnished down to dishware and linens. We also recommend grabbing a local paper, which most Islands have, to assist you with rental properties.
Lifestyle: Life in the Islands is very relaxed and slow paced… we live in Paradise to enjoy life! While some Islands like Trinidad are large and have 4-lane highways, many are small and quaint. While most Islands have regular ferries to and from other Islands, it can be an adjustment getting used to water on all sides!
Just some food for thought while considering your move to the Islands… We love this life, but we do encourage you to educate yourself on Island life before you make a move. It is our belief that everyone should live their life where they are happy…for us, that’s the Islands. If this is your dream, we will be happy to assist by offering you great Career opportunities in the most beautiful places in the world….welcome to Paradise!
